Wedding CEREMONIES At

St Osyth Priory

Magical weddings, civil ceremonies and more...

With you Every Step Of the Way

The moment it all begins

Within the magnificent grounds of this historic estate, you are spoilt for choice when it comes to beautiful locations in which to stage your ceremony. St Osyth Priory has a heritage stretching back more than 1,400 years while the estate features acres of mature woodland, ancient ponds and glorious parkland. The Chapel on St Osyth Estate, while no longer ordained, is a stunning backdrop for civil ceremonies, meanwhile civil ceremonies can also be held in Darcy House.

Changes in the law now allow guests to get married outside anywhere within the grounds of a venue with a wedding licence, which means finding the perfect surroundings to share your wedding vows have limitless options within the estate. Religious ceremonies can be hosted in the Church of St Peter and St Paul, adjacent to the St Osyth Priory estate, with your personal wedding coordinator able to help you liaise with the church for these arrangements.

November, 2023

"The venue itself was everything we could’ve hoped for, everyone commented on how breathtaking it was, from the Darcy west house, to the chapel built in the 1100s, the winding rose gardens, twinkling wisteria walkway and flock of white and red deer. There are so many different settings to fit in with your day and these girls really will help you to have the day you’ve been picturing."

Darcy House

St Osyth Priory is a licenced venue, able to host civil ceremonies at outside locations across the estate as well as within some of the most beautiful buildings within this historic destination. One of the most popular locations for a civil ceremony is Darcy House Great Hall. Located to the north of the estate’s famous Precinct, Darcy House Great Hall hosts up to 110 seated guests for a ceremony, with stunning views through the monastic arch windows stretching out across the sprawling parkland where deer roam free. While a more intimate ceremony can be hosted in Darcy West for up to 20 people.

Couples can share their vows beneath the hand-painted golden stars of the ornate ceilings in the ancient Gallery, parts of which originate from the 16th century. This is your chance to make your own moment of history, standing in the footsteps of royalty left behind by Queen Elizabeth I, following her visits to the estate during her Royal Progresses.

ABBOTS TOWER

Located to the east of The Precinct, Abbots Tower is positioned adjacent to Darcy House and is one of St Osyth Estate’s most elegant ancient buildings. Surrounded by your wedding guests, brides and grooms can look into each other’s eyes with the splendour of stained glass dancing light throughout the 900-year-old church. Welcome up to 60 of your closest friends and family to this intimate and dramatic space as they share your ceremony with you in the most wonderful surroundings.

While The Chapel is no longer ordained as a place of worship, it is licenced for civil ceremonies meaning that a registrar can oversee the legal requirements for your wedding in this most glorious and grand of settings. Make the moment you say ‘I do’ the most special of memories as you look into your partner’s eyes within this wonderfully restored icon of history.

Outdoor ceremonies

If you choose to have your wedding ceremony outside at St Osyth Priory, the options are almost endless. As one of the most important natural habitats in the East of England, St Osyth Priory Estate offers a myriad of landscapes and waterways including formal gardens and sprawling parkland.

Most popular locations for an outside wedding are the North Lawn overlooking glorious parkland views, within The Precinct surrounded by the estate’s most historic buildings, or in the Sunken Garden bordering the magnificent planting of the formal gardens.

The legend of St Osyth Priory is built on a story of faith and dedication. Today the estate welcomes brides and grooms of all faiths and beliefs to celebrate their union and bear witness of their love to one another. Whether you choose to mark your wedding day with a humanist, handfasting, inter-faith blessing or any other type of ceremony, the personal wedding coordinators at St Osyth Priory will make sure your every need is catered for and ensure your day lives up to your fullest expectations.

While home to one of the most important collections of ecclesiastical buildings in the country, St Osyth Priory no longer has any ordained buildings within the estate. However, for those looking to mark their wedding with a more traditional Christian ceremony, the St Osyth Priory team can help facilitate staging your wedding service in the Church of St Peter and St Paul on the very edge of the estate in St Osyth village and just a three-minute walk from Darcy House and The Precinct within the estate.
